The Fun-Filled Labor Day

Funny how Labor Day is called Labor Day when we do no labor on that day, but I understand the significance of it. Labor Day is such an exciting day for some people. In all honestly, I usually don’t do very much on Labor Day, but this past Labor Day was a nice change. My family and I met up at my second family’s house (which is not literally my second family but we are just that close,) and we had a blast. We brought desserts, chips, and they supplied the main meals. I wasn’t really that hungry, but it was the thought that counts. All I had was a hot dog, a brownie, and a couple drinks. Outside is where the fun really started.

We attempted to play what was supposed to be volleyball, but the net didn’t seem to want to cooperate. The peg was broken before we could even set it up, so that only made problems worse. No one really complained, we had fun regardless. We actually played with the net on the ground, it was dumb but hilarious. After playing for a while we went inside and reunited as a family in the most typical way (with African drums in our hands.) It was very new for my family, but they caught on so well, it looked liked they’d done it a couple of times before. It didn’t take long to get into it, and soon enough we were all beating on the drums in harmony, with smiles on our faces. We went around and all got to play our own beat and the rest of us chimed in once we found the rhythm.

After that, everyone was back outside for more fun. I went undefeated in the bean bag toss game (because of course it’s me.) After beating everyone in that, we played Racquetball. It started out with two, and then increased to six in a few minutes. It was a 3-3 game, and we were still playing over the net that was laying on the ground. Of course we weren’t keeping score, because you can’t tell if it would have actually went over or not. Regardless, we still made it fun and only trash talked for fun in games. All around it was a pretty great day. We were over there for at least 4 hours and there was never a dull moment. Everyone ate good, played games, and had tons of fun. At the beginning, I felt like it was going to be a pretty awkward time, because they had to call me to ask where we were (since we were a little late,) but the tensity settled down pretty quickly. Moral of the story, don’t waste a day of freedom when you have it guys. Instead of sleeping in, go spend the day with people you love!
